Parent Requirements:
No upper age limit for parents
Single mothers may apply
No restrictions on the number of divorces, bankruptcies, or number of other children in the home. Your home study reflects your social worker's approval of whatever life situations you have faced.
EASY medical requirements
Children: Families can adopt more than one unrelated child in the same trip. The cost for each additional child from the same orphanage is 2000 euros (approx $2550), and if your 2nd child is in a different orphanage, the cost is 4000 euros (approx $5100). There is no additional charge for siblings. Only one dossier required to be submitted.
Travel: $800-$1200 round trip each adult (this cost will vary greatly based on the time of year you travel, adoptive family discounts from the airlines, and the number of Sky miles that are donated for your family's use)
Escort: 400 EUROS fee for each chaperone's time and care of your child. Approx. $800-$1200 for each chaperone's flight, $700-$900 for each child's flight (this cost will vary greatly based on the time of year you travel, adoptive family discounts from the airlines, and the number of Sky miles that are donated for your family's use). Your chaperone(s) will typically stay in your home and will help you with the language barrier and transition for up to 5 days.
Time Frame: From beginning of process to the time your child is home, 10 months
NOTE: Submitting your dossier does not obligate you to accept the child referred to you nor to travel for that child
Complete all home study and USCIS requirements (approx 4-5 months)
Submit dossier.
Within 30-90 days, get child referral from Ministry of Justice through Toni via e-mail
Schedule your trip to accept that child any time within 2 months of referral.
Travel for 5 days to spend with the child and sign "intent to adopt" paperwork. Only 1 parent must go, both are preferred.
Return home.
Wait 2-3 months for completion of court and either travel to pick your child up, or arrange for an escort.
Sibling Groups: can be requested and are likely available. Cost for adopting each sibling is an additional 1000 euros ($1275) each
Escort Service: available for up to two children. If escort service is requested, there is a 400 euro fee (roughly $625) for each chaperone. The adoptive family is responsible for the cost of flights for the escort and the child, along with any hotel/food/travel expenses while the escort is in the United States.
Post-Placement Reports: required every 6 months for 2 years.
